New Job? Fo Shizzle! - and more..

So, as the title suggests - I have a new job.

I start on the 1st Sept 2011, working for a company in the centre of Bolton. I'm excited and really eager to get my teeth into a new company and show them what I can do.

It's better money, car, everything so it's all good for us as a family and it's a good move for me professionally.

As regular readers will realise, this blog isn't half as professional as my main football one so forgive me the lack of structure :)

We're getting all geared up for our hols, we're off to Mexico and I am super-excited. Its only 48 work days to go and 20 days to go at Aquila so I'm confident time will continue at it's ridiculous pace. We've got all of our clothes, though that will probably change as we've enrolled on a 6-week course at the local DW Fitness Gym. It's actually a cracking deal and I'm feeling the benefit after 3 sessions.

We went to the Ben & Jerry Sundae in the park last weekend (Sat 23rd July)and had a great time. Reminder for next year, take picnic rug (already purchased a Ben & Jerrys one this year and take a picnic and beer....miles cheaper in the long run, whilst I dont mind paying for the odd Pimms, £4 for a can of San Miguel is practically robbery, even if they did provide unlimited free Ben & Jerrys Ice Cream.

The music at the festival was good, Little Comets,Starlings, Gary Numan and of course Maximo Park impressed and a good time was had by all. I even won a bungee race against one of my mates and I never saw that coming in a million, so much so I didn't even put money on it...I'm such a mug.

Worryingly, I do think I am growing up a bit. We're talking family and bits and I'm really excited by it. I'm never going to be a strict Dad, but I will always do my best to show my potential children how much I love them and how I'd do anything for them.

On that rather pathetic note I'll sign off. I'll try to update more frequently, probably just after the 1st Sept 2011.

OMG!! 2011?! - Where has the time gone?

It has been a while hasn’t it?

So much has gone on and I’d like to share some of it with you, my dear reader.

Firstly, as of the 5th of November, Wendy and I purchased, moved in and began our new lives in our new home.

It was, is and will continue to be awesome. I struggle to find appropriate words to describe how content I am. The house is everything I could have hoped for and more and our lives together– as complicated and stressful as work makes them, are also everything I could hope for.

I’m a very fortunate man really and for that I am thankful.

So what’s happening with me then? Well we’re off to Mexico in October and I can’t wait. I’m a sunshine person and I love being hot….sounds like Mexico is going to hot-hot and I am well looking forward to it.

I’ve also been getting on well with my other blog – http://www.wigangooner.co.uk and I’ve been getting a lot of traffic from people, (one day last week 5800 people looked at an article) so it’s clearly generating an interest, which is really why I do it.

The sports writing is something that is really exciting to me at the moment, I did an article for another website “Arsenal Arsenal” see below link for article;
http://arsenalarsenal.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/whatever-happened-to-a-boy-called-wellington/

That article got over 10000 hits and plenty of comments and it has shown me that I am able to write decent articles and perhaps maybe take it up as more than a distraction or hobby.

To that end I’ve sent off a copy of an article to a local news agency to see if I can write anything for them.

Fingers crossed!

That’s all for now, we’re out on the beerski’s tonight and I need to get my shizzle done.

Kent Air Ambulance Cycle across Cuba - 2010

Some extremely dear friends of mine are taking part in a charity fundraiser that is well worth your attention - The Kent Air Ambulance Cycle Cuba Challenge.

As part of Kent Air Ambulance Trust's 20th Anniversary year, a team of 31 cyclists including 8 members of staff and crew from the trust have signed up for the challenge of a life time - cycling 350 kilometres over 5 days from the Bay of Pigs, famed for the US aggression on Cuba in 1961, through towns and villages to Trinidad, a World Heritage Site, before finishing the ride in the Bay of Cienfuegos.

Air Ambulances shouldn't have to rely on public goodwill to survive. In todays society of multi-car families and the traffic on the roads a fast, mobile, airborne solution like the Air Ambulance is a must. Without these men and women who take to the air on a daily basis people would die. Morbid, but true.

Please, please visit http://www.justgiving.com/cyclecuba2010 and donate just a pound or two. They will even accept dollars or euro's or even probably sheckles if you have them. Be a giver.

Take a look at http://cyclecuba.info for lots of information.

Thursday 4 November 2010

On the eve of forever!

Its Thursday 4th November. Tomorrow is the day when Wendy and I embark on a new adventure. We will become homeowners. Part of the mortgaged masses.

I'm excited, nervous, apprehensive, thrilled, everything.

I'm not sure there is an emotion that I haven't felt.

I know one thing. It will be awesome.

Shopping, Shopping and More Shopping...interspersed with other bits..

In true Rawlings-Heaton style we spent the weekend doing what we are good at...spending money :)

Its all good however, its all bits and pieces that we need for Egypt...its less than 25 work days to go and I'm getting really excited! I've never been to that part of the world and I don't really know what to expect.

Well, naturally apart from the obvious, its going to be hot, sandy and fun....We're off to an all-inclusive resort but will be planning several activities around and about the drinking and hardcore pool action.

Along with myself, Twend is also getting excited. I think we've got all the clothes we'll ever need and once we come back from these hols I don't know where we are going to put them all....its convenient right now that they are just all folded up in the carrier bags they were purchased in...upon our return god help the washing machine and its helper, Ma Heaton.

Sunday we went shopping in the Arndale Centre in Manchester. More clothes to add to the aforementioned, Birthday prezzies for Twend and then it was back home for the super-hardcore-ultra-handyman me to take over, put up a Gazebo (with assistance - thank you Tash) and then I assembled a Chiminea....which was good...if not smoky....investigation required into that...surely it shouldn't be that smoky....*shrugs*

Anyway, thoughts then passed onto next weekend and therefore onto work today. Twend made my lunch (gawd bless her, without her I'd be nothing) and I loafed and watched TV..oddly I watched Alan Carr Chatty Man with an odd amount of interest as Robin Williams and Bobcat Goldthwait made him look daft without trying. This amused me somewhat, I'm not a big fan of Alan Carr's over-effusive personality and to see two old men controlling his show was fun.

Then it was to sleep...where random dreams punctuated a rather decent sleep. Thinking about it, I might start blogging my dreams...I do have some corkers....

Til then

Egg Chasing, Peanut huggers and Beer

So, Friday night I went out with the Father-in-law to watch the Warriors play at Walkabout. Wigan were awesome, absolutely awesome.

Firstly I feel its important to tell my loyal followers that I wouldn't normally condone such sports, using such put-downs as "Its handball" and "Its a sport for those that can't play football" to name but a few.

I have however been taken with Wigan Warriors, this is my second season of occasional interest in their games and now that I understand the rules a bit, I am actually enjoying it as a spectacle. It doesn't inspire me to go buy a rugby ball, nor get into a scrum of my own, but as a sporting event, its good fun.

So just to confirm, I've not crossed over to the dark side.

Anyway, the evening was good fun, Wigan won with aplomb and the game was punctuated by a rather excitable old woman who was screaming at the big screen. Mild amusement aside, I began to wish I had some form of tranquiliser. I was pleased to hear that I wasn't the only one as other patrons began muttering about it also.

I had a few beers, interspersed with a few diet cokes to try and keep the calorie intake down as I now go full bore, all out, up to maximum velocity towards my holiday and try and lose as much weight as I can whilst enjoying myself and knowing me, I think August will be a fun month!

Forthcoming events include, in date order;

14th August - Birthday BBQ

21st August - Birthday

28th August - Birthday bash (darn saaf)

So, a busy month indeed!! I'm sure there will be more updates on here, til next time happy readers!
